From Wednesday, January 28, to Friday, January 30, the global nanotechnology community gathered at Tokyo Big Sight for the 2026 Nanotech Expo. Amidst the bustling halls of one of the world’s largest technology showcases, the Netherlands made a significant impact through the DeepTechNL mission.
At the heart of the action was the Holland Pavilion, located in the prominent Deep Tech Zone. The pavilion served as a vibrant hub for six Dutch trailblazers—many of whom are active members of the NanoLabNL ecosystem, leveraging our national cleanroom infrastructure to bring their breakthroughs to life.

Insights from the Mission
The mission highlighted the strengthening ties between the Dutch and Japanese high-tech ecosystems. For NanoLabNL users, it was an invaluable opportunity to bridge the gap between laboratory research and global commercialization.
“It was fantastic to see such a big marketplace for Nanotechnology and how new domains, like Quantum and Photonics, can claim a spotlight,” noted Raoul Oostenbrink, Coordinator and Head of the NanoLabNL program office.
The presence of these companies in Tokyo underscores the vital role that accessible, state-of-the-art infrastructure plays in the Netherlands. By providing the tools for fabrication and characterization, NanoLabNL continues to empower startups and established firms to compete on the world stage.
What’s Next?
As we look back on a successful mission in Tokyo, NanoLabNL remains committed to supporting our users in their journey from “lab to fab.” We are already preparing for upcoming international collaborations and facility upgrades to ensure Dutch nanotechnology remains a global leader.
