prof.dr.ir. Hans Hilgenkamp

Hans Hilgenkamp is a full professor at the University of Twente and scientific director of MESA+. He obtained his MSc (1991) and PhD (1995) at the University of Twente and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the IBM Zurich Research Lab in Switzerland and the University of Augsburg in Germany before returning to Twente in 2000, where he became full professor in 2005.

He has held visiting professorships at CSIRO-Lindfield in Sydney, the National University of Singapore and Leiden University. His work has been recognised with a KNAW Research Fellowship (1997), NWO VIDI (2002) and VICI (2008) grants, and the University of Twente Central Education Prize (2007). In 2012 he became an honorary member of the Applied Physics study association Arago.

Hilgenkamp was an inaugural member of the KNAW Young Academy and is co-founder of the Global Young Academy. In 2018 he was elected into the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW). He has served on the boards of various national and international organisations and was dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2014 to 2019.
